Project Background
Textile and garment manufacturing is an extremely competitive industry. There is a great need to improve the visibility of products and production information in the manufacturing process and to practice the just-in-time production philosophy that helps manufacturers attain cost savings. New automatic data capture technologies allow the capture of data and the tracking of assets to better control inventories and improve their visibility, enabling a quick response to changes and, hence, the enhancement of productivity in production lines.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is the emerging technology that has been increasingly used in manufacturing in recent years, particularly in the U.S. and Europe. Automatic data capture tools have assumed an important role in supporting manufacturing processes to facilitate instant access to product information along the textile and garment manufacturing processes. Automatic data capture tools can identify, categorize, and manage the flow of goods and information throughout the textile manufacturing process, including dyeing, printing, and finishing, textile and garment manufacturing, etc.
It is a research project of The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel and funded by Innovation and Technology Commission.
